All Regal Autosport customers are currently recommended to use Shell V-Power 99 RON E5 fuel as a first choice, but may at times use ‘standard’ 95 RON fuel with sympathetic use when it is not easily available.

This statement holds true for 95 RON E5 fuel only. Not the new E10 variant. 

Regal Autosport’s software calibration is optimised for Shell V-Power 99 RON, but can safely be used with 95 RON E5 fuel for transportation only. Not for high performance use.

This is not the case with the new E10 fuels.

The new ‘standard’ fuel specification has changed from an ethanol content of 5% (E5) to 10% (E10). Whilst the RON remains the same, a fuel composition change means a calibration change is required to safely use it.

In short; using E10 fuels in a car calibrated for E5 may pose a risk to the engine.

If you wish to be able to use E10 fuels in your car and would like to have a Regal Autosport software calibration to suit, this is possible upon request. 

Please note that calibrations optimised for E10 use may have a lower power output than those optimised for Shell V-Power 99 RON E5.

The CAE Racing designs shifters for H-Pattern gearboxes. CAE Racing Shifters dramatically reduce shift time, improve feeling and improve ergonomics, they achieve this through redesigning the stock shifter to their “Ultra Shifter” specification.

Typically, to get a huge improvement in shift speed and feeling from a manual gearbox, the expectation would be to convert the gearbox to sequential shifting. As well as huge cost, these conversions are (at the less expensive end) of the market are unreliable and degrade daily driveability.

With the CAE Racing Ultra Shifter, you are only replacing the factory shifter and in some applications with the included or optional heavy duty shift cables which further improve shifting. Ultra-fast and precise shift speeds are able to be achieved because of this.

So what’s better? A DSG car or a CAE Racing Ultra Shifter equipped manual? After installing them in our in-house cars, customers and trying both we’d have to say that whilst the DSG equipped cars are incredibly fast to shift the CAE Racing Ultra Shifter adds another level of enjoyment to manual shifting that can never be replicated on a DSG car.

With the CAE Racing Ultra Shifter fitted it allows you to shift so fast and precisely through the gears with minimal effort and with the higher shift knob position being closer to the steering wheel you don’t have to move your hand from the steering wheel for long, maximising both shift and steering control.

This story goes back a few weeks to GTI International whereby we attended a track day with a customer who has a heavily modified Cayman S (pictured below) running Toyo R888Rs, spending the day whizzing around the Rockingham National circuit. Unfortunately, on the first day, the R888Rs grew a bulge in the side wall as the day went on and we were left without a safe set of tyres which we could continue to day 2 of the event. Fortunately, Nankang was at the show with their AR-1 equipped 993 Cup Car which had similar fitment wheels to the Cayman, albeit another 20mm narrower front and rear to the Toyo R888R setup. Nankang kindly lent the wheel and tyre set to us for the day.

The difference was astonishing. The AR-1s provided a dramatic increase in traction, grip and stability like you would not believe. A perfect example of this is that out of the tight hairpin of Tarzan, on the R888Rs this was a second gear corner whereby you would struggle for traction and the Cayman with its relatively low power of 300HP would spin up both wheels and send the car sideways. With the AR-1s Tarzan became a 3rd gear corner with a full throttle exit, without any wheel spin. Adding to this throughout the 30-minute session the AR-1 did not have any performance drop-off whereas the R888R would overheat in around 3-4 laps and you’d have to cool it down before going again. Not ideal.

So that’s how we came across the Nankang range, and now we are delighted to offer it to customers! We’ve also equipped our own Golf 7R with the Nankang AR-1s and the tyres have since exposed other areas of the chassis which need to be tweaked in order to maximise their performance. On the PSC2s the car used to slide around a lot on track and wheel spin, with the AR-1s this is eliminated. GLA45 has it’s performance credentials listen even higher with a custom RSS ECU Remap

The Mercedes-AMG GLA45 AMG isn’t an SUV which lacks in the performance department in standard form, but AMG left a large amount of performance on the table, especially when the ECU tuning is combined with hardware upgrades like this GLA45 already had installed such as intake and downpipes.

The RSS ECU Remap for the GLA45 AMG is custom tuned on our in-house Mustang MD-500 AWD Dynometer which is a mechanically linked system and uses TAT dyno software to calculate losses. During the custom tuning session many software maps within the ECU are optimised in order to improve power, torque and drive ability whilst leaving all of the factory safety parameters in place.

Why Wavetrac?

Simply put – Wavetrac is the only gear diff on the market that does not lose all drive when one axle is unloaded. Axles become unloaded in aggressive driving, track cornering, extremely slick surfaces, etc. It happens more than most people realise.

We won’t go into torque bias ratios or the concept of how torque biasing diffs work at this point. Let’s get to how the Wavetrac affects performance:

For example, you have a conventional gear diff (OEM, Quaife, MF, OBX, Truetrac, Torsen, etc.), you’re on a race track for a track day and during cornering your inside wheel bumps over the curbing. This is normal for track driving. The issue is that for the brief moments your inside tire becomes unloaded when bouncing over curbs, your other wheel is not getting drive – is not putting power down. Gear diffs need load on both axles in order to function. The result on a track (or during aggressive driving) is that there are many times when a normal gear diff supplies only intermittent power to the gripping wheel.

Now, same track with Wavetrac: the patented cam device in the Wavetrac prevents loss of drive when that inside wheel is unloaded. The device is able to generate a load inside the diff (to replace the lost load as it happens) that can then be biased to the gripping wheel – in the end making more consistent power delivery through a corner. That makes the car more predictable, and faster overall.

Other benefits:

• Patented Carbon Fibre Bias Plate for the pinions. All other gear type LSDs run the pinions on the housing, meaning the friction from 0 miles is different to 100 miles, thus effectiveness is reduced over the life of the diff. With the Wavetrac performance is consistent with the Carbon Fibre bias plates!
• Patented Wave Profile eliminates the effect of a near to and zero load condition drive ability issues found in all other gear type ATB LSDs.
• ARP Bolts used throughout for superior faster reliability.

WAVETRAC: Smooth is Fast

The beauty of the Wavetrac is that it is ideally suited to high performance road cars that see track use. It is very strong, yet transparent to both driver and traction control electronics during regular driving. On the track or in spirited road use, it provides drive to both wheels without the handling issues that traditional clutch type diffs create (there is no tendency to push/understeer with a Wavetrac).

The Wavetrac outperforms other gear type differentials because unlike them, it won’t lose drive when one axle is unloaded (which happens more often than you’d think).

Lastly, one of the most underrated benefits of the Wavetrac is its smooth delivery of power near the limit. Its patented design makes for a very predictable, smooth addition of power when you need it most – when things are at their limits: on the edge of traction mid-corner and using throttle to keep it there; or coming into a corner a little hot, but quickly back on it to maintain exit speed…

These situations are often subjective to the driver, but the benefit can be felt. The Wavetrac makes you faster because it lets you drive with confidence. Smooth is fast.

Integrated Engineering’s design boasts a number of market leading features, they say that “Our engineers spared no expense developing this intake system to ensure it is never outperformed by others on the market. The large internal volume and 45 degree angle of the filter result in the highest flowing closed element intake system tested to this point.”

IE quote the air flow increase to be just over 16% when the removable sound door is removed..

Back to back test results prove that the IE Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake delivers added horsepower and torque across the whole rev range, with maximum gains of 20TQ at 2700RPM & 10HP at 6250RPM. All of this on an already highly upgraded Golf 7R!

On the road the Golf 7R now pulls much harder across the whole rev range, but most noticeably so into the rev limiter.

Conclusion: The IE Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake delivers quantifiable gains on the rolling road, but most importantly tangible gains on the road that can be felt across the entire rev range.

Falling close to the end of show and track day season, the Forge Motorsport Action Day is not one to be missed.

But first, with the UK circuits having such strict noise limits we needed to keep a cap on the DB produced by our AWE Tuning SwitchPath exhaust with Catless Resonated Downpipe. The problem is that, even if driven in Eco Mode the valves open at full throttle, unleashing maximum volume. To solve this and add another level of driving enjoyment we installed the AWE Tuning SwitchPath Remote which overrides the factory valve control.

The SwitchPath Remote plugs into the factory valve controllers and allows the user to control manually either the stock exhaust, or any aftermarket exhaust which uses the factory valves. A big plus is that the valves remain in the position when the engine is turned off. We have a number of customers that want the valves open when they start the engine, this Remote will allow you to do that.

The kit comes complete with a valve controller and two remotes. They can fit on your keyring or be stuck somewhere in the cabin using the supplied 3M double sided sticky tape. We installed ours within easy reach of the drivers seat. Checkout the video below of how easy it is to use. These are in-stock and available for £189inc VAT + delivery.

Also installed during the track preparation was the Tarox Strada rear brake pads. Being that we have done 4 track days the stock pads were near the end of their life, and the Tarox Strada compound will be better suited to the track usage, wearing at a lower rate whilst also offering improved performance. WIN WIN!

The track day itself at Castle Combe was super wet. The morning sessions ranged from rivers running across the track to eventually drying out in the late afternoon sessions. 

With the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres fitted the saturated conditions proved quite tricky. Aquaplaning at any opportunity.

Then in the late afternoon when the track started to dry out we could really push the car. The SwitchPath Remote keeping the DB at bay, never triggering a Black Flag for noise. The suspension tune we have been developing over the past few weeks has greatly improved the handling and feel of the 7R. We also got to try out the Tarox Super Sport brake kit for the first time on track, although we didn’t manage to push the kit to its limit thanks to the damp conditions, the kit definitely provided much more consistent performance throughout all sessions.
