This is an update for all of our customers regarding the new standard fuel specification in the UK.

All Regal Autosport customers are currently recommended to use Shell V-Power 99 RON E5 fuel as a first choice, but may at times use ‘standard’ 95 RON fuel with sympathetic use when it is not easily available.

This statement holds true for 95 RON E5 fuel only. Not the new E10 variant.

Regal Autosport’s software calibration is optimised for Shell V-Power 99 RON, but can safely be used with 95 RON E5 fuel for transportation only. Not for high performance use.

This is not the case with the new E10 fuels.

The new ‘standard’ fuel specification has changed from an ethanol content of 5% (E5) to 10% (E10). Whilst the RON remains the same, a fuel composition change means a calibration change is required to safely use it.

In short; using E10 fuels in a car calibrated for E5 may pose a risk to the engine.

If you wish to be able to use E10 fuels in your car and would like to have a Regal Autosport software calibration to suit, this is possible upon request.

Please note that calibrations optimised for E10 use may have a lower power output than those optimised for Shell V-Power 99 RON E5.

Project Huracan Part 5: More Bark

With the VF800 Supercharger system fitted to the Huracan, it was only a matter of time before we ordered an exhaust system to complement the power increase

The factory exhaust on the Huracan sounds great initially but after hearing the factory sports exhaust and other aftermarket alternatives we started to want more!

After looking at all of the options on the market we decided to order up an Akrapovic Slip-On Line Titanium Exhaust for our Huracan. A couple of key features alongside the incredible tone, volume and power increase was the valve control for a Jekyll & Hyde personality, so we can sneak home should we need to, extreme lightweight (dropping 20kgs) and the carbon fibre/titanium tailpipes which replace the factory Stainless Steel items for improved aesthetic.

The Akrapovic Slip-On Line Titanium exhaust for the Huracan is a full bolt-on, plug and play exhaust requiring zero modifications. So should you wish to return the vehicle back to stock at a later date you can without any hindrance. Before we put the factory heat shielding back onto the exhaust we had to get a few shots of it mounted, in all of its Titanium glory!

With the exhaust system mounted it was time to install the Akrapovic Carbon Fibre Clad Titanium Tailpipes. These replace the heavy, factory stainless steel tips and hugely improve the rear aesthetic…

Incredible…

Checkout this standstill revving in Corsa mode. The volume increase is huge and the tone is incredible, deep and much more pops and bangs through this system.

It sounds even better on the road under load, we’ll add some more drive-by/in-car videos as we record them.

Project Huracan Part 4: The Track Day

Attending numerous track day events throughout the UK and taking the trip over to Spa and the Nurburgring many times throughout the year, from day one our intention was to enjoy our Huracan on the race track.

With that thought in mind, it may become immediately more obvious why we chose the supercharger route. The linear power delivery of the stock Huracan’s 610PS 5.2l V10 is something that’s really well suited to the race track and something we wanted to improve upon without losing the N/A exhaust note or the linear power.

The reason why the VF Engineering VF800 kit is ideal for this lies in the Magnussen TVS2300 supercharger, this essentially lifts the power at every RPM dramatically and has zero lag. Allowing us to enjoy more power at every RPM, without any surges in torque delivery as the supercharger is always ready to provide boost.

With the supercharger, servicing and geometry tweaks being the only modifications added to the car, even on the stock (and old) Pirelli P Zero tyres we hit the track, not really knowing what to expect.

On the road in the UK there are only a few places where you can unleash the full power through 3-5 gears. At Rockingham, we were able to in the dry accelerate from second all the way through to the top of 5th which is around 130/140mph before braking, or lifting if you’re feeling really brave for the banked turn.

It took a while to get to grips with just how fast this supercharged Huracan can accelerate, your mind really needs to recalibrate to the higher speeds, completely different braking points and how much throttle you dare to use as the rain started to fall!

Here’s a helmet cam from the afternoon session as the track was drying, just checkout that acceleration!

The VF800 Supercharger system performed flawlessly throughout the track day during the 80 laps we completed throughout the day. The only areas that let the car down were the factory Pirelli P Zero tyres when pushing and not running enough camber on the front axle. Luckily, both areas can be solved with some straightforward upgrades including tyres, either to the aggressive Pirelli Trofeo R or more road mannered Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. Additional camber can be dialled in using the factory arms.

Project Huracan Part 3: The Install

WOW! It’s been just over a month since the VF800 supercharger kit landed for our Huracan LP610-4. We haven’t managed to get a chance to install as of yet due to customer builds and a lot of travelling recently, and we wanted to make sure we shot the install for you.

One of those trips recently was in the USA, and we got the opportunity to visit VF Engineering’s Anaheim facility. Arriving late one afternoon Gary showed us around their facility which was brimming full of energy. With a few supercharger upgrades nearing completion we had a walk around their installation bays, current projects included Gen 1 R8 V10s and a few LP610-4s being finished off, two with custom finishes on the supercharger unit.

One of those was a Satin Red (not shown) and the other was a Satin Blue below…

Fast forward to this week in the UK and we are ready to install the VF800 supercharger system onto our in-house LP610-4. Below you can see the main event ready to be fitted to the 5.2l V10.

With a number of these installations already under our belt our tech’s quickly set about installing the VF800 supercharger system, beginning the process by removing some of the OE components that we’ll be replacing, like the Lamborghini Intake Plenum.

With the factory Lamborghini Intake Plenum placed beside the Orange VF800 Supercharger, you can really begin to see just how much of a visual impact the supercharger will have through the transparent engine bonnet!

VF Engineering also did a great job of colour matching against the factory brake callipers.

Next up is to install the supercharger unit onto the adaptor plate. This process is very easy but also has the most visual impact.

Whilst the supercharger was installed we also installed some of the other key parts such as the supercharger pulley system, multi-point injectors with VF fuel rail and installing the supercharger charge cooling circuit.

After re-installing the remainder of the factory parts required for dyno testing, we strapped the Huracan down onto our Mustang MD-500 AWD dyno so we could optimise the tune with VF for use in the UK climate and fuel.

The now supercharged VF800 Huracan sounds SWEET on the dyno with its additional 200hp and 200lbfts. On the road, the car pulls relentlessly and smoothly through every gear. Taking the original car truly up to Hypercar performance territory, now when’s the next track day?

Regal Autosport at SEMA

For those of you who don’t know, SEMA is most likely the largest aftermarket performance automotive show of the whole year. Located in Las Vegas, USA (what genius thought of that?) it’s a huge event with all of the main performance part manufacturers and tuners in the USA, alongside Ford who has a HUGE presence at the show.

The show is literally rammed shoulder to shoulder, every day of the week and spans the entire Las Vegas Convention Centre which is the size of a UK Village itself.

You may have noticed but we’re going through a crazy V10 phase at Regal currently. So the first port of call was to checkout all of the boosted Audi and Lamborghini V10s of the show.

First up we checked out Kevin Gordon’s Huracan Performante. It’s fitted with the VF Engineering Hypercharger system, Brixton Forged wheels and full 1016 industries body kit.

In the next hall was Brian from Rotiforms Audi R8 RWS. Fitted with the new Rotiform Motorsport Wheels, complimented by some aggressive aero and all backed up by a VF Engineering VF800 Supercharger System. There’s no doubt that this R8 has more than enough power going to the rear wheels only.

On the BBS booth, fitted with the FI-R (read further down to see it on LMs) and a WILD Super Trofeo body kit was Marc’s 580-2 Twin Turbo. Centre exit exhaust and screamer pipes through the rear bumper completed the extremely aggressive look.

Then there was one of the main talking points of the show. The S55 powered E30 M3 on the CSF Radiators booth. It’s fitted with a full S55 M4 drivetrain. Despite what others may think, it starts and runs! We hope to see this out on the track next year!

Some of the other highlights on the CSF stand was obviously their products. They debuted the E Series N54/N55 version of their Stepped, Curved Bar & Plate Intercooler. It features a unique curved bar which increases flow through the core and increases the surface area. We’ll be receiving our first batch in December.

Next up we have a couple of their world record holding S55 and S63 charge air coolers. These plug and play liquid to air intercooler upgrades dramatically improve the cooling power of the stock liquid to air intercooler, dropping charge temps consistently. Improving power, torque and boost response.

Something especially cool to see at their booth was the MQB Cooling Package which we have co-developed with CSF. Specifically to overcome the engine water and DSG oil temperature issues the MK7 R, MK7 GTI, 8V S3, 8S TTS, Octavia VRS and Seat Leon Cupra suffer on the road and track once power is increased. Another crazy build on the CSF booth was the 458 Spyder with Prior Design Body Kit & Sheepey Built Twin Turbo System. Utilising a full suite of CSF products to cool the 900HP on tap including liquid to air cores and heat exchangers, ensuring the coolest charge temps possible. The N/A 485 is one of the best sounding cars on the planet and thanks to Speedhunters you can hear that a Sheepey Built TT 485 sounds like!

Something we did not expect to see or like at the SEMA show was this Nissan Juke. It’s been completely stripped and rebuilt from the ground up with the purpose of rally and the occasional track day. Equipped with some aggressive aero, extensive modifications to the powertrain including a Wavetrac differential, we look forward to following this build into 2019.

Carrying on with the rally theme we found this Classic 911 Rally. Noticing the dirty exterior left over from the previous round at a show full of gleaming cars, that’s something we can get on board with! This car also uses a Wavetrac ATB LSD to great effect.

Another cool car of the show was this incredible 1200hp Honda S2000. Despite the show car looks the owner drove the car to and from SEMA and said that the car will happily wheel spin at over 160mph. With 1200hp, we’d have to believe him.

Alongside the S2000 was the Sparta Evolution Brakes booth. As you’ll probably already know, we use the Sparta EVO Big Brake Kits on Ash’s Track 7R and Ryan’s Track E92 M3 to great effect. They offer incredible performance, awesome aesthetic all at a great price.

Project Huracan Part 2: Boosted Arrivals

As if 600HP was ever going to be enough.

For most, adding boost to a supercar sounds like too much. The Huracan is an excellent supercar in stock form but to create a truly exhilarating driving experience it needs a performance hike. Luckily for us, our partners at VF Engineering have a tried and tested method of taking the Huracan up to Hypercar slaying performance levels.

Within these two boxes is VF Engineering’s Supercharger for the Huracan which can lift performance up by around 200hp & 200lbfts which results in the 0-60 time to 2.4 seconds, that’s 0.5 seconds faster than the Huracan Performance and 0.4 seconds faster than the Aventador SVJ.

At the centre of this epic upgrade is the Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger. It’s in charge of compressing air into the Huracan’s 5.2l V10 engine, effectively increasing its volumetric efficiency with a net result of improving performance to incredible levels.

Off the shelf, these superchargers come in a crinkle black finish. A Black/Stealth look is not something we were looking for from our kit. It’d be a shame to look through our transparent bonnet and see a Black supercharger, this is a Lamborghini after all…

To match our Orange seat stitching and Orange callipers we opted to have the Supercharger painted to match. This will stand out fantastically in the engine bay and contrast perfectly with the callipers and seats.

Now we just have to schedule a time for installation…

Most BMW axles from 07 onwards came with a friction welded ring gear and open differential. This causes some headaches for installation concerning vehicle downtime while the factory differential/ring gear is separated by precisely machining the parts away.

Regal Autosport has now solved this, starting with the 33107599411 3.08 215 axles, most commonly found in the M135i/M140i. A full application list can be found at the bottom of this post.

Pay for the product + the exchange deposit and we will send out to you a 30.309.155WKFM1.
We will then refund the exchange deposit if a complete, usable (in good working order) axle is received within 10 working days. Axles which require maintenance/repair to be put into service or are not in working order will not be refunded.

The CAE Racing designs shifters for H-Pattern gearboxes. CAE Racing Shifters dramatically reduce shift time, improve feeling and improve ergonomics, they achieve this through redesigning the stock shifter to their “Ultra Shifter” specification.

Typically, to get a huge improvement in shift speed and feeling from a manual gearbox, the expectation would be to convert the gearbox to sequential shifting. As well as huge cost, these conversions are (at the less expensive end) of the market are unreliable and degrade daily driveability.

With the CAE Racing Ultra Shifter, you are only replacing the factory shifter and in some applications with the included or optional heavy duty shift cables which further improve shifting. Ultra-fast and precise shift speeds are able to be achieved because of this.

After installing them in our in-house cars, customers and trying both we’d have to say that whilst the DSG equipped cars are incredibly fast to shift the CAE Racing Ultra Shifter adds another level of enjoyment to manual shifting that can never be replicated on a DSG car.

With the CAE Racing Ultra Shifter fitted it allows you to shift so fast and precisely through the gears with minimal effort and with the higher shift knob position being closer to the steering wheel you don’t have to move your hand from the steering wheel for long, maximising both shift and steering control.

997.2 Turbo Bilstein Damptronic Suspension Installation

Old suspension be gone

Ryan’s 997.2 Turbo is no track day virgin. Having visited a number of UK tracks and the infamous Nordschleife it was time for a suspension overhaul. Currently, his Porsche is upgraded with a number of choice modifications to improve it for track day duty without compromising the everyday driveability.

For the brakes, Ryan opted for Pagid RSL29 brake pads, Motul RBF660 fluid and Goodridge brake lines matched to the factory Porsche/Brembo callipers and discs. CSF takes care of the engine water cooling, upgrading the failure prone front three radiators with CSF All-aluminum units which will prevent any overheating issues, allowing Ryan to enjoy his 997.2 Turbo without worrying about water temps.

Naturally, the next area for improvement was the suspension. Ryan chose to upgrade the ageing factory Porsche/Bilstein PASM dampers with H&R springs with a Bilstein Damptronic coilover kit. This kit is a plug and play upgrade for the factory PASM system, retaining full functionality with the added benefit of a more track focussed damping in sport mode which has been developed at the Nordschleife and a more comfortable comfort mode. Alongside better track performance and comfort this kit allows the ride height to be adjusted for an improved aesthetic and corner weight balancing.

After the suspension was installed, ride heights set our fast road/track day geometry was installed. Sharper, more precise and stable handling thanks to the combination of the Bilstein Damptronic and geometry setup.

Lamborghini Gallardo Fault Finding

Lamborghini Gallardo 550-2 stopped by for some fault diagnostics after noticing a loss in power and check engine light on the dash.

With a diagnostic test we were able to find that the error code related to the “Bank 1 intake manifold flap stuck shut”. This intake manifold flap is a moving flap within the intake manifold which moves to improve the mix of air and fuel at different engine speeds, which results in an improvement in driveability, power and torque vs. without. With this stuck in one position the power, torque and driveability of the engine become limited and results in a check engine light.

So that we could verify the improvement in power and torque we dyno’d the vehicle on our in-house Mustang MD-500 AWD dyno before fixing the hardware fault.

With the Gallardo in our workshop, we were able to begin removing the intake manifold to reveal the intake manifold flaps…

This then revealed that the Bank 1 actuator arm had failed. A simple fix, with a new, Genuine Lamborghini part ordered and delivered to us overnight we were able to replace the faulty item and test the repair.

With the faulty part replaced, check engine light cleared we headed to the dyno to verify that this part was causing issues. This Gallardo gained a huge 20hp and 14lbfts throughout the rev range and is now running fault-free with no check engine lights.
