Even though we upgraded to the Performance Friction pads and the brake fluid, the brake performance was still very poor, fading when pushed and overall providing a very low amount of stopping power.

The solution? We ordered up a Sparta Evolution Triton-R 380mm front and 355mm rear big brake kits for this E92 M3.

The kits have a number of unique features, despite being extremely large callipers they are also extremely light at 3.2KG for the 6 piston front and 2.2KG for the rear. Thanks to extensive machining to the calliper bodies in specific places which maintain calliper rigidity for the firmest pedal feel. The eagle-eyed of you will also notice the castellated pistons which, in lamens terms have cut-outs to minimise the piston to pad contact patch which reduces the amount of heat transferred through the pad and into the brake fluid. Keeping the pedal consistently firm, essential for track driving.

The Pegasus R discs are free-floating items which come pre-assembled with a run-out QC check on the rotor. This unique Pegasus R pattern keeps the pad surface from glazing over without aggressively abrading the pad surface like some of the other designs on the market.

All of these features add up to a big brake kit that will be a significant upgrade over the stock E92 M3 system. Providing a massive improvement in stopping power and most importantly repeatable performance.

Under the factory 19″ competition pack wheels they fit with plenty of room to spare, as we mentioned earlier its time to upgrade this factory tyre and wheel combination with something extra special.

To replace the competition pack wheels and far from new Michelin Super Sports, a set of BBS Motorsport E88s was supplied alongside Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s (latest spec compound).

The Sparta Evolution Triton R 380mm 6 Piston Big Brake Kit fits with plenty of room behind the 18″ BBS E88 wheels and look absolutely stunning. A perfect match for the perfect wheels.

With just over 2000 miles completed since the installation, the driver comments are that the brake pedal feel is much firmer and overall stopping power is monumental but extremely progressive. The E88s match with Pilot Sport Cup 2s has unlocked the final chunk of grip which was missing with the Super Sports, allowing the geometry and damping setup to be refined even more. Overall, inspiring confidence to push the car to its limit in all areas.

It’s no secret that one of the E92 M3s tendencies is its sudden breaking of traction with both wheels at the rear. This is due to the factory ///M differential which is a clutch unit can suddenly lock, causing both wheels to move at the same speed often resulting in the rear end breaking traction completely. In contrast due to the differential being a clutch based unit it can wear, producing in poor lockup resulting in behaviour like an open diff. Both are not ideal situations for a road or track car.

The Wavetrac automatic torque biasing limited slip differential is a helical based unit with a big difference. A major drawback in helical units, up until Wavetrac produced its patent-protected design is that once axle load is low enough or lost an ATB like a Quaife will function like an open differential. Thanks to Wavetrac’s unique, patent-protected wave hub system it can create internal load in these situations, so the Wavetrac ATB LSD continues to work when others stop.

Scenarios, where this technology can benefit, is really in all. On track when cornering hard, unloading the suspension or hopping over curbs, lifting a wheel the Wavetrac ATB LSD continues to bias torque so drive is not lost and forward momentum is maintained.

On the road, when passing over the UK’s notoriously unsmooth tarmac, drop-curbs or simply low-grip conditions like dusty or wet roads the Wavetrac will outperform other helical diffs like the Quaife with ease.

Big benefits over a plate-style LSD is that the Wavetrac has very low noise vibration and harshness meaning your driving experience is not ruined with high NVH. The Wavetrac ATB LSD also never locks so you don’t have to compromise your chassis setup with having to overcome a locked axle, this is significantly useful when optimising the spring rates. It also requires zero maintenance and will have zero performance drop-off where a plate style diff will need to be periodically removed and serviced to maintain function.

All things considered, the Wavetrac ATB LSD is significant performance upgrade with zero maintenance costs.

As part of all of our Wavetrac ATB LSD installs we spec the backlash to within the OE specifications.

Whilst the Wavetrac will work fine with the factory oil, for axles like these which will experience a lot of track work we use the Motul 75w140 competition oil. Giving a little more protection for the OE components.

On a hot summer day on the road or at a track event driving around the high temperatures can be an issue when pushing the E92 M3. The E92 M3 has four coolers in total, an engine oil cooler, dct cooler, power steering cooler and engine water cooler.

First up, we’ll focus on the DCT cooler. Often you’ll hear DCT owners complaining of the DCT overheat causing the E92 M3 to go into a mode whereby shifting is much slower, low power mode or even selection of only one set of gears until cool. The workaround is often to have long cooldown laps or a lot of time in the pits waiting for cool down.

The CSF Race Dual-Pass DCT Cooler has an additional cooling tube and uses a high-density louvre design for maximum cooling which results in a 30% increase in efficiency. Eliminating DCT cooling issues.

Second up is the CSF Race Heavy Duty Oil Cooler with Cast End Tanks. The stock cooler is more susceptible to failure due to its tack welded and crimped end-tanks and tube/fin core. The CSF Oil Cooler for the E92 M3 maximises the space available with a heavy duty turbulated bar and plate core welded to the cast end tanks. Thanks to the heavy duty 8-row core which is taller and deeper than the OE item oil temps are significantly dropped alongside faster recovering times, resulting in less time cooling down your E92 M3s oil temps.

Third up is the CSF Race CAB Brazed Power Steering Cooler. This cooler eliminates the power steering coolant overheat issues which results in scary and poor steering. Its design utilises CSFs AC condenser technology to create a 6-row design with 83% more surface area over the OE item that results in a 40% increase in efficiency.

Finally, the crown jewel. CSF’s All-Aluminum Triple Pass Water Radiator. CSF’s design features a dual 42mm row b-tube core design, the b-tube core increases the tube strength meaning a thinner material can be used which increases cooling efficiency and lower weight for such a powerful cooler. The cooler is finished off with CSF’s 1-hour “mirror finish” show polish. This eliminates water coolant issues, dropping coolant temps in our testing by 10c and allowing coolant temps to recover much faster too.

Fitting is simple with all of the parts being a 1:1 replacement of the original items, however, by being much more power the combination of these four coolers means that cooling issues will never be an issue on Ryan’s E92 M3 build.

Building upon the previous upgrades of the Bilstein Clubsport Suspension, GTS Aero, Corner Weight Balancing and Geometry Setup Project Goth Rocket is being treated to an Akrapovic exhaust, PFC Z-rated pads, Motul RBF660 brake fluid, Akrapovic Evolution Line Titanium Exhaust and H&R Roll Bars.

The PFC pads and Motul brake fluid will help the stock braking system cope with the higher heat experienced on track, giving a much more consistent pedal and friction level where the OE BMW products would begin to lose performance. The H&R ARBs will help increase the spring rate during cornering, helping to control body roll.

Combining tangible power and torque gains with lower weight, improved sound and aesthetic the Akrapovic Evolution Line Titanium Exhaust is often considered to be the ultimate exhaust for the E92 M3, and it’s hard to argue otherwise.

The Akrapovic Evolution Line Titanium Exhaust is a complete, ultra lightweight header back exhaust system which includes high-flow sports cats, x-pipe for a smooth tone, performance silencers and an option of carbon or titanium tips. The titanium tips complement the Frozen Black perfectly.

Once the installation was completed Ryan’s E92 M3 headed on to our newly purchases geometry setup gear which allows us to accurately measure and adjust camber, caster and toe. Once fully set up Ryan headed to the Rockingham Track Addict track day in his E92 M3 to put all of the modifications to the test. Even with the factory (yes, 10-year-old) Michelin Super Sports the improvement in handling provided by the Bilstein Clubsport Suspension, H&R Roll Bars, Corner Balancing and Geometry Setup was immediately noticeable and enjoyable.

F10 M5 in for its first of many modifications

Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs replace the original springs and lower the ride height of your F10 M5 by around 25mm. The goal here is to reduce the fender gap improving the vehicle aesthetic.

No, this E92 M3 is not wrapped. Its a factory 1 of 20 Frozen Black edition. We know a fair few purists are going to be screwing their faces and hitting keys with a lot of passion but these cars are to be enjoyed and, our mission is to improve this E92 M3 far beyond the factory competition pack spec into daily driveable but, track enjoyable E92 M3. Enter the Goth Rocket.

You may already notice that this M3 is sitting a little lower than factory. That’s because we’ve already installed a Bilstein Clubsport 2-Way suspension kit. This suspension is for the more track focussed driver with 2-way adjustable damping, high spring rates and adjustable top mounts to dial in the front camber. Although track focussed, this car is used as a daily driver, and NVH levels are not increased too much over OE. Simply, you are left to enjoy the improved handling without too much of a sacrifice in ride quality and NVH with plenty of adjustment should you wish to track the M3.

Alongside the suspension installation and geometry setup the M3 was also cornered balanced. Corner balancing is the fine adjustment of the coilover spring perches to ensure the vehicle (and driver) weight is evenly distributed over the four tyre contact patches. It is an essential part of setup and helps provide optimised cornering grip and consistent handling.

Next up we installed GTS style aero parts. When travelling at high-speed, Sport Auto reports that the stock M3 creates 10kg of lift at the front and 23kg of lift at the rear, this creates instability and dramatically reduces handling performance. With the GTS front splitter and rear wing, lift is eliminated and downforce is created. So much so that the front can develop 7kg at the front and 30kg at the rear This is a huge increase in downforce that will yield great improvements in stability and handling.

The other great thing about the GTS front splitter and rear wing is that the aesthetic is significantly improved. Making the M3 look much more aggressive. GTS wing images can be found in Part 2.

F87 M2 in for a stance upgrade.

One of the best ways to upgrade the look of your M2 is to install the Eibach Pro-Kit which lowers the front by 25mm and rear by 20mm. Alongside Pro-Spacers, spacing the wheels out 10mm further either side with longer wheel bolts. The aim, to reduce the arch gap and improve the

aesthetic.

With the Eibach springs and spacers fitted the aesthetic of this M2 are greatly improved over stock.

We also upgraded the ECU software with HEX Tuning Stage 1 software. This greatly improves horsepower and torque without any other modifications. This vehicle made a huge 400HP and 440lbfts as well as having the GTS style overrun crackle and enhanced

The HEX Tuning Stage 1 ECU remap for the BMW M3 and M4 lists power to around 510HP and 480lbfts. This makes the car pull much more ferociously through every gear, up to the hard-cut rev limiter if you choose to install the HEX Tuning DCT Tune at the same time too.

Alongside increased power and torque, other features such as GTS style overrun burble, GTS style start-up roar, start/stop delete, increase power sports display and 192MPH speed limiter. When combined with the increased power and torque, the driving experience is completely transformed!

The DCT software is key to improving power and torque delivery, with improved engagement and torque delivery characteristics the driveability of the gearbox is improved. Really allowing you to enjoy the DCT gearbox in all its glory.

New for 2018, all of the F series BMW tuning is flashed via the OBD2 port with the supplied tuning tool. Allowing you to flash the standard file or purchased stage of tune back onto the vehicle at any time.
