For those of you who don’t know, SEMA is most likely the largest aftermarket performance automotive show of the whole year. Located in Las Vegas, USA (what genius thought of that?) it’s a huge event with all of the main performance part manufacturers and tuners in the USA, alongside Ford who has a HUGE presence at the show.

The show is literally rammed shoulder to shoulder, every day of the week and spans the entire Las Vegas Convention Centre which is the size of a UK Village itself.

 

You may have noticed but we’re going through a crazy V10 phase at Regal currently. So the first port of call was to checkout all of the boosted Audi and Lamborghini V10s of the show.

First up we checked out Kevin Gordon’s Huracan Performante. It’s fitted with the VF Engineering Hypercharger system, Brixton Forged wheels and full 1016 industries body kit.

In the next hall was Brian from Rotiforms Audi R8 RWS. Fitted with the new Rotiform Motorsport Wheels, complimented by some aggressive aero and all backed up by a VF Engineering VF800 Supercharger System. There’s no doubt that this R8 has more than enough power going to the rear wheels only.

On the BBS booth, fitted with the FI-R (read further down to see it on LMs) and a WILD Super Trofeo body kit was Marc’s 580-2 Twin Turbo. Centre exit exhaust and screamer pipes through the rear bumper completed the extremely aggressive look.

Then there was one of the main talking points of the show. The S55 powered E30 M3 on the CSF Radiators booth. It’s fitted with a full S55 M4 drivetrain. Despite what others may think, it starts and runs! We hope to see this out on the track next year!

Some of the other highlights on the CSF stand was obviously their products. They debuted the E Series N54/N55 version of their Stepped, Curved Bar & Plate Intercooler. It features a unique curved bar which increases flow through the core and increases the surface area. We’ll be receiving our first batch in December.

Next up we have a couple of their world record holding S55 and S63 charge air coolers. These plug and play liquid to air intercooler upgrades dramatically improve the cooling power of the stock liquid to air intercooler, dropping charge temps consistently. Improving power, torque and boost response.

Something especially cool to see at their booth was the MQB Cooling Package which we have co-developed with CSF. Specifically to overcome the engine water and DSG oil temperature issues the MK7 R, MK7 GTI, 8V S3, 8S TTS, Octavia VRS and Seat Leon Cupra suffer on the road and track once power is increased. Another crazy build on the CSF booth was the 458 Spyder with Prior Design Body Kit & Sheepey Built Twin Turbo System. Utilising a full suite of CSF products to cool the 900HP on tap including liquid to air cores and heat exchangers, ensuring the coolest charge temps possible. The N/A 485 is one of the best sounding cars on the planet and thanks to Speedhunters you can hear that a Sheepey Built TT 485 sounds like!

Something we did not expect to see or like at the SEMA show was this Nissan Juke. It’s been completely stripped and rebuilt from the ground up with the purpose of rally and the occasional track day. Equipped with some aggressive aero, extensive modifications to the powertrain including a Wavetrac differential, we look forward to following this build into 2019.

Carrying on with the rally theme we found this Classic 911 Rally. Noticing the dirty exterior left over from the previous round at a show full of gleaming cars, that’s something we can get on board with! This car also uses a Wavetrac ATB LSD to great effect.

Another cool car of the show was this incredible 1200hp Honda S2000. Despite the show car looks the owner drove the car to and from SEMA and said that the car will happily wheel spin at over 160mph. With 1200hp, we’d have to believe him.

Alongside the S2000 was the Sparta Evolution Brakes booth. As you’ll probably already know, we use the Sparta EVO Big Brake Kits on Ash’s Track 7R and Ryan’s Track E92 M3 to great effect. They offer incredible performance, awesome aesthetic all at a great price.

Players Classic is in our minds, without a doubt the best show of the year. Combining a track day with an incredible show and shine event, it’s got something for everyone. This year we prepped Ryan’s E92 M3 and Ash’s MK7 Golf R to dominate the track day and take passengers out all day long.

First up, we prepped the cars. A pre-track day spanner and fluid check with brake bleed, geometry setup on both cars and setting up the corner weights on Ash’s 7R . Simply a series of pre-track day checks, geo and fluid and they’re good to enjoy!

Despite the excruciating 40C track temp conditions, their Regal Autosport prepared cars performed flawlessly lap after lap, with Ryan completing 75 laps and Ash completing 55 laps.

The Nurburgring Nordschleife or North Loop is 12.9 miles of the most challenging race circuit in the world. With extremely fast, blind corners with a mix of on camber, off camber and numerous jumps make it a huge challenge for a driver to master all of its 73 corners.

This huge challenge makes it a huge draw for track day enthusiasts, it’s the perfect place to challenge the car and the driver and that’s exactly why Ash and Ryan took their track day cars there, MK7 Golf R Project Blueberry and E92 M3 Project Goth Rocket.

With an open pit lane track day booked for Friday for DN19 with Ring Weekends Ash and Ryan hit the track earlier in the week to try and get a bit of learning in before the main event.

The story starts with an early morning start, with Ash and Ryan meeting Mark in his 688HP R34 GTR and Ben in his bone stock (for now) 7R at the Shell petrol station outside of the Euro Tunnel station in Folkstone to stock up on Shell V-Power, ready for a sprint through France, Belgium and into Germany.

If you haven’t been in the Euro Tunnel it’s probably the most convenient way to travel to Europe by car, the whole process takes around 90 minutes from arriving, boarding and leaving. Wasting no time. We like.

A sprint through France, Belgium and Germany allowed for an arrival time at the Nordschleife for around 6PM, with enough light in the day for a few laps on the Touristenfahrten day or, TF as we’ll refer to it whereby the track is open from to the general public and as a result you will experience many novice drivers and may even witness a coach or two.

On the right of the image below, you can see the Antoniusbuche section of track which is a straight that’s a HUGE 1KM+

Luckily, as it was a Wednesday afternoon the TF day was not very busy. With mostly fast cars and fast drivers, very few laps were impeded.

Although Ash and Ryan have done many laps on various games nothing can prepare you for exactly how your car will feel on the Nordschleife, the cambers, climbs, drops, jumps and blind corners so a slow and steady build-up of speed was on the menu.

With Day 1 complete culminating in 500 miles+ on each car and a few laps completed with each car, it was time to have a lie-in to catch up on some sleep and then hunt down a good car wash. You may be wondering why we weren’t at the track on Thursday, but a Porsche tuner booked the whole Nordschleife for their customers so we didn’t have any track time.

We did, however, have some fun on some “pRiVaTe” roads…

With some help from our friends at Meguiar’s the Golf R and M3 were back to their previous glossy glory, ready to check out some of the eye candy at the track

But not before an icon appeared… The Porsche 959. If you don’t know what this is, CTRL + T, Porsche 959, Enter, Read.

After probably freaking out the owner of a 1Mil + Euro supercar Ash and Ryan set off to check out the Porsche heavy track day at the Nordschleife at one of the most popular spots, Brunchen.

With Thursday spent chilling out and soaking up the sights it was time to catch some sleep in preparation for the DN19 open pit lane track day on Friday.

Ash and Ryan got to the track in the late morning and were greeted with some awesome machinery, most popular being BMW M or Porsche GT series vehicles.

There was even a 430 Scud hiding amongst the German metal

Unfortunately, Ash and Ryan received numerous reminders throughout the day on just how challenging the Nordschleife can be, even to some of the more experienced drivers.

With numerous stoppages throughout the day caused by crashes, Ash and Ryan stayed poised to get out on track as soon as the opportunity arose

Once the track opened Ash headed out in his Golf R and Ryan in his M3 and pushed the cars around the Nordschleife. All of the upgrades and setup carried out worked flawlessly, delivering performance and reliability lap after lap. With many more hours spent on the circuit Ash and Ryan could set some impressive times but for now, the goal was to come back to the UK in one piece without a big armco bill!

As soon as the track time ended at 5PM Ash and Ryan headed back to Calais to catch the 9PM ferry and the sunset. Back in the UK, and ready for the next track day…

Goodwood track day on a Wednesday? LET’S GO!

To us, there’s nothing better than heading to the track with a bunch of your friends in freshly prepared cars.

On the 15th of May, we attended a Goodwood event set up by the lovely lads at Players Show. We arrived with a bunch of customers cars including F80 M3, E92 M3, E46 M3, MK7 Golf R, E61 M5 and Honda Beat (yeah, you read that right!)

The aim of the day was to have fun with a bunch of like-minded enthusiasts on one of the fastest, historic and luckily for us, closest tracks in the UK. We would be free to enjoy the day with around 15 others so a really rare opportunity to allow our cars to stretch their legs.

The morning was dry with rain scheduled to arrive at between 10 AM and 11 AM, when it inevitably arrives it was on/off torrential rain for the remainder of the day which didn’t dampen our spirits, and we headed out to enjoy the day…

It became a matter of threading the cars through the middle of most parts of the circuit as huge puddles ran down each edge of the track, putting your driving skills to the test.

Get a friend who lends you BBS E88s…

Ultimate Dubs is often seen as the first show of the season, it’s a Show & Shine event in Telford and is a reasonable distance away from Southampton. Being a Show & Shine event, it’s probably not an event that you may think we’d attend.

However, car events are ultimately about hanging out with friends and making new ones. So, we set for London to meet up with Ryan on the way to Mark’s place. Sounds like a really unnecessary distance to travel? The reason you ask? For Ryan to fit Mark’s E88s he just had delivered for his E61 M5. Ryan has a set of E88s currently on order with BBS but with attending UD Ryan wanted something a little more appropriate.

 At Mark’s place, there wasn’t just E88s but, an R34 GT-R in the garage. If you ever played Gran Tourismo or just love cars in general, this is pretty much the ultimate machine.

With well over 600 horsepower as a result of a plethora of upgrades, this really is a serious piece of kit.

What are E88s? E88s are a split rim BBS Motorsport wheel. Super light, super strong and look superb. If you ever visit the Nordschleife you’ll already be familiar with these.

Wrapped in fresh Michelin PSC2s the 19″ E88s looked ultra aggressive.

Especially whilst on the move

 Stopping off at another friends house on the way to Telford there were some serious Dominic Torretto house vibes.

At UD we caught up with Ben in his F80 M3. Equipped with HEX Tuning Stage 1 ECU remap, DCT tune and 3 piece CSF cooling upgrade consisting of top-mount charge cooler, front mount heat exchanger and DCT cooler. Ready for the catless downpipes and Stage 2 tune to be installed in a blog update later.

As well as Ben we caught up with the gang at Kenwood in their Porsche 962 inspired Sirocco. Absolutely smashing it with this vibe.

It was a great weekend catching up with customers and businesses we work with throughout the years. Onto Rockingham on the 24th of March…

For us, Autosport is the first show we attend. As exhibitors on the Thursday/Friday with CSF Radiators and Wavetrac Differential in the Engineering section and then as Motorsport fans on the Saturday it provides a great place for us to meet our industry peers too.

This year, as well as exhibiting we had a few customer cars on display. First was @7^th.seal’s Cayman S track weapon, equipped with all of our favourite parts such as Bilstein suspension, CSF Radiators, Wavetrac Differential and much more to make an extremely capable track toy. This car was on display across all 4 days on the Bilstein suspension stand.

On another stand was @ben_scenemedia’s F80 M3. Equipped with well over 500HP thanks to a mix of CSF Race top mount charge cooler, front mounted heat exchanger and DCT cooler alongside HEX Tuning’s Stage 1 ECU and DCT tune. This car was on display on the Tarox brakes stand with its newly equipped Rotiform SIX wheels. What do you think?

A few of our favourite cars of the weekend included a Group 5 Capri, DTM BMW and Mercedes too.
