Originally, Regal Autosport International (Limited) started life as “Regal Car Engineers” in 1988 and later changed to its current name after business growth lead to working with more businesses internationally.
In the early days, Regal Autosport was located in floating bridge road in a humbly sized garage with its focus on the repair and maintenance of the period popular Triumph range and Lotus models including the S1 to S4 and other Lotus cars of the era.
Progressing into the mid-1990s Regal Autosport relocated to a much larger facility based in Malvern Road, Shirley which housed a much larger reception, customer waiting area, warehouse for the ever-growing telesales and growing online store alongside a much larger workshop to support the growing upgrade side of the business.
During this period Regal Autosport focussed on the exploding 90s scene in Japanese and Vauxhall tuning with engine conversions and big turbo conversions being a common customer request. The most notable conversions during this time were the countless Toyota Supra 800hp builds, Subaru Imprezas, Cavalier/Calibra big turbo conversions and even a Nova with two C20LET engines.
As well as this Regal Autosport grew to be one of the largest dealers in the UK for Superchips and REVO ECU software and gained its first experience with rolling road/dyno operation with a 2WD Maha dyno.
2005 – Today
In 2005 Regal Autosport bought and moved into their current Southampton premises which has been developed over the years with paved off-street parking, purpose-built dyno cell, warehouse facility and various workshop facilities. Located off of Junction 5 of the M27, 2 miles from Southampton Airport & 82 miles from Central London Regal Autosport is easy to access via vehicle, train & plane.
During this period Regal Autosport achieved successes in the VW Racing Cup with Tony Gilham, in 2007 winning the UK championship in the Greed/Pink liveried MK5 GTi which featured parts from partnerships which endure through to today, such as the Wavetrac LSD.
After the 2007 championship win, Regal Autosport advanced into the Porsche Carrera Cup UK and joined forces with Design 911 to create “ReDesign Racing” and from 2008-2010 campaigned with a limited budget to obtain a championship standing of 2nd at the highest.
From 2011 onwards, Regal Autosport then continued to support Tony Gilham in the setup and race track activities during his campaign in the NGTC engined S2000 FN2 Civic.
Whilst at the new location in Southampton the business focus changed from Japanese/Vauxhall tuning to specialise in the Volkswagen Audi Group, Bentley, Seat, Porsche, Lamborghini as well as expanding into Mercedes and BMW tuning.
Over the years, investments in the facility included the creation of a purpose-built in-house dyno facility to house the Mustang MD-500 AWD mechanically linked dyno, paved parking for customers, new ramps, warehouse, customer reception, customer waiting area and state of the art wheel alignment equipment.
Fast forward to today and Regal Autosport has evolved to specialise in the maintenance, repair and upgrading of European cars such as Audi, Bentley, BMW, Lamborghini, Land Rover, McLaren, Mercedes, Porsche and Volkswagen.
The most notable builds during this period include the supercharging of numerous Audi R8 V8, R8 V10, Lamborghini Gallardo and the UK’s first Supercharged Huracan. We also bought our own in house Huracan to supercharge as a demo vehicle.
Regal Autosport’s services include wheel alignment, corner weight balancing, DSG/S-Tronic gearbox repairs, decoke/carbon cleaning of engines, ECU software upgrades and much more.
Customer facilities at Regal Autosport include off-road paved parking, air-conditioned reception with waiting area, free Wi-Fi, hot/cold drinks and waiting area.
